The Market Road Gallery online bookings ran between 2017 and 2024

This was the UK’s first (we think) bookable public gallery, giving you the chance to book to make artworks on sections of a 65m wall in central London.

It is part of a wider series of pilots to see how more people can have voice through artwork, and through saying what they like to see more of as well as what they like to see less of.

Everyone is invited.

We have been learning as we go and are immensely grateful to those of you who have got involved and to paint, and to act as critical friends as well bringing your creativity and ideas.

What if more positive feedback means work stays longer and negative feedback means work is replaced sooner? 

We are now reviewing what’s next and seeking more funding our next stages of learning with you. Meanwhile, feel free to view this site, as an archive of some of the the bookings made.

Location

The gallery is located in London N7 – on the back of the Hold / Attic Self Storage building, Kings Cross, by the sports pitches where York Road meets Market Road.

How does it work?

– Download the web-app from www.marketroadgallery.org to book from your phone, or else from a computer.

– Choose if you want to paint on the wall, submit feedback about works already underway or make other suggestions for the gallery.

– To paint, go to ‘Let Me Paint’ to choose available wall section(s) and dates to make your work. Access is via Better Leisure Football Pitches reception on Market Road – just let them know when you get there. Take your reservation with you. 

– To feedback or submit ideas, go to Let Me Speak.  Choose what you want to feed back on and rate artworks or submit your suggestions.
